There is nothing I love more than to cuddle up under a blanket and read a good book. (Bonus if it’s a GREAT book.) But who am I kidding- I am the type of person who will read a book any and everywhere! Reading is my thing. I feel most like myself when I'm reading regularly, and lately, I've been in a good groove. I've taken a break on my self-help books and drove into some good ole fiction. Books allow you to take a break from your life and peek into a new world. Here are some books that I engulfed in two days or less.
One day I logged onto Twitter and saw that Tomi Adeyemi was named the next J.K. Rowling by some credible news source. I closed out the tab and vowed not to read the book. (Because I'm the next J.K!) It's nothing like seeing someone doing what you want to do- to give you a kick in the ass. After finally getting over myself and the book sitting on the shelf for months- I read the book, and I'll say- it's worth the hype.
When I tell you, I could NOT put this book down- I could NOT put this book down! I started this book while waiting for a flight back home from New Orleans and finished it the next morning. Even when I put the book down, I couldn’t help but picking it back up because the characters stayed with me. It was a heart-wrenching read, but I just HAD to know how it ended. I recommend this but with a trigger warning caution.
Ok, fine! I admit I'm like any other girl- I love a good ass romance novel! This one did NOT disappoint. I took this book with me down to New Orleans, and I was sad when I WASN'T reading it! This book is modern romance and shows how 'fuck buddies' can get complicated. The neat part of this book is it didn't just focus on the love but the woes of being a young professional. After reading this book, I was filled with the warm and fuzzies.
Books are the one thing that I don’t think twice about buying. If there is a book that’s getting a lot of attention or awards- I can’t help but snatch it up. I'm SO glad I brought it blindly- it is genius! If I would have known that this book was a book of poems- I probably wouldn't have brought it. Poet X is the most beautiful, detailed, stimulating book that I have read in a while! Though it was told entirely in poems, it shows a complete story (better than most novels). This novel is a coming to age story that entangles first love with family issues and trying to find themselves. This book made me feel seen and touched me on a soul level.
I watched this movie on Netflix and thought it was the cutest movie EVER! The book was equally as cute. There were so many times I read this book and would have a smile on my face. Unlike the Wedding Party, this book takes you back to your high school days- you're first love days. Super easy read and there are two more to go with it!
